So if we are using Leviticus to define marriage, does that mean that only people from the three Monotheistic religions can actually be married? What about Hindus? Sikhs? Buddhist? And that's just three of many, many non Judeo-Christian-Islamic religions?

Leviticus says a lot of things that are routinely ignored by the majority of Christians. This one little passage (Leviticus 20:13) is being used as justification for state sanctioned prejudice by many.

However, I agree with the gist of what you are saying. I don't think government should be in the marriage business at all. They can approve civil unions that provide same sex couples with the same protections under the law that M/F couples get. Sanctification ceremonies can then be performed by whatever religious institution the parties wish. No religious institution should be forced under law to perform a ceremony that goes against the tenets of their faith.

On a somewhat related note, a few months ago I was shopping for new toilets for the house that never seems to get done. I came upon the American Standard brand with one particular model that advertises itself as "...will even flush a bucket of golf balls!".

Now, understanding that I don't drink so the odds of me accidentally consuming a bucket of Top Flight XL5000 balls is somewhat remote. So the thought of "evacuating" them out in one setting, without the assistance of either 911 or the ER was even more unlikely. So I passed [no pun intended] on the Champion.

It seems, however that it might have had another use but was somehow unable to get the advertising campaign past the Standards and Practices department. One would think, however that "Sorority Approved" might suffice.

I will be the first person to say that marriages are a religious thing. That being said government has always extended the courtesy of recognizing those marriages with certain rights.

If a gay couple were to be married in the "Church of the Grand Sapghetti Monster" that is fine. The Grand Spaghetti Monster can recognize all he wants. The God I worship says very specifically that this is a sin and as such is wrong. I am also taught to hate the sin and love the sinner. In other words, it is up to God to decide if S/He recognizes the union.

I think Government should recognize the marriage the same as any other. Marriage is a good thing (most of the time) and I think that a gay couple who is married should be able to adopt a child as well.

Lord knows I have gay friends who would make a heck of a lot better parents than a lot of straight people I know.

Much Like Abortion this is a religious issue.

They are both civil liberties issues, that have been co-opted as wedge issues by those with ulterior motives disguised as religious righteousness.
