I am trying to figure out how I got back $10K. That is higher than normal. The CPA that I use was pissed at all my stock stuff for last year. I hit him with over 300 1099-x forms. The return has been done for a while but he waits until today to send it so it goes in with the mass and only minimal keystrokes are entered. It is statistically more likely to end up buried in a warehouse than at any other time.

Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.

Makes perfect sense to me. AFAIK IRS does not even do random audits anymore, only the audits which were triggered by the inconsistency etc. Like one did not report his W2 or 1099 or something.
