BWOT has folks to fit every view and views to fit every member. We have not become a bastion of anything. Since everyone can post, everyone can post equally and be both respected and harangued equally.
If you came here to see only one prevalent point of view, I can see where you might be disappointed. As one of the largest Benz sites in the world we have folks from EVERYWHERE. As the melting pot of the world AMERICA has folks from EVERYWHERE. Diverse views are going to exist. That is both the cool and worst part of this country.
Should 8 year olds be allowed to marry 47 year olds? Not in MY opinion. But then again, there are Mormon sects that think 12 is OK so I am guessing there is a big fuzzy line somewhere that changes with the wind. We are not in a position to address Saudi law, no matter what we think or care. The defense you might think is of their "right" to marry a 8 year old is no more than a reality that it is not up to us, in any shape form or fashion. In a perfect world something could be done. We don't live in a perfect world.
That does not promote islamic values, because I could just as easily be talking about Hindu or other religions or cultures. It simply says that we, as Americans have to realize that we are not in charge. We have to realize that, in the past eight years we have become LESS in control than we previously were.
Some on the board reflect those realities.
Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
