There is an important message there that shouldn't be overlooked or swept under the carpet, and it applies to Dave's rather cavalier suggestion that the Islamic world is exporting their culture here. If you haven't read how we exported our culture to the Philippines in the link I posted, it's worth a look -- but only if you have a strong stomach. That stuff might seem like good clean fun to a good old boy from the Midwest, but other cultures have a different perspective altogether.
The bottom line is that we should at least clean up our own backyard while pointing fingers at others for doing less of the same. Or so it seems to me.
Frankly, the only person here trying to shout anyone down is you. On one hand, you're shouting me down for joining the discussion by pointing out some small hypocrisy, while on the other, you're trying to play Tahloube as your personal marionette, who has now become accountable to you for all manner of things beyond her control, and even her experience.
Then you declare "If we can't even have those discussions anymore, we - as a race - are doomed". What's your favorite saying again? Oh, yeah. "I don't get it."
1) I disagree with your bottom-line summation. It's a non-sequitur. Show me where it's written that nobody can every criticize anyone or anything unless there are no problems of any sort. Or perhaps you can show us where we've codified what could be NEARLY universally agreed upon human rights violations as acceptable under our rule of law.
2) I'm not trying to shout ANYONE down; I'm trying to understand why this discussion keeps getting derailed from the actual subject, in favor of irrelevant nonsense from people who are apparently so afraid of it that they'll come up with any excuse - no matter how tenuous - to avoid it, citing that it's somehow hypocritical for us to render an opinion or 'none of our business'.
3) If we exported a culture to any country, by force or otherwise, that resulted in a free people democratically electing to legalize ghastly violations of human rights, I'm unaware of them, but would readily denounce and condemn them and those who perpetrated them.
