I just got a raise afew days ago; now I make $25,000 a year. Not bad considering that a lot of people are getting furloughs or simply losing their job.
I have $2 in my pocket to buy lottery tickets (my retirement fund) and a credit card that I use for groceries, gas and to pay the mortgage. My minimum payment on that card is $30 so I am living large

Angry

I am not paid a measly Aussie dollar. I just make US... (sorry my accountant wants me in a conference call with my lawyer about today's tax deadline. Bye, bye)

Second thing I learned in Tax Law, never ask a person how much makes, you will hear a lie or an excuse. You may ask anything else personal and it will not be as taboo as earnings or personal liquid assets.

So, do you guys not pay the following?

State Retail Sales Tax
Local Retail Sales Tax [some districts]
Local tax [some districts]
Gasoline tax [federal]
Gasoline tax [state]
Utility Tax [four different taxes]
School Tax
Interstate Service Fee [telephone]
SSI
FICA
Real Estate Property Tax
Automobile Usage Tax
Tangible Personal Property Tax

And that is just personal. When you add business taxes, it goes up from there.

There are more but those are just off the top of my head.

Those of us here in the Land Of Pleasant Living will soon be paying the "Driving through a School Zone" tax. My money is on Elau to be the 1st to cough up $40.

Effective income tax rate <= 10%. Not talking about the other stuff, which is consumption based and fixed for everyone.

Those taxes actually work very well. We should use them instead.

But the point was the aggregate.

And if the Federal rate is moved down, as some folks wish, watch those other fixed and consumption based taxes grow like kudzu in the South.

Too bad you can't make oil or ethanol from Kudzu. The South would rise again.

It is biomass. I am not so sure it couldn't be done. Brazil is years ahead of us in biomass research but that will hopefully change very soon.
