WAKE UP CALL: TEXAS GOV. BACK RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY

WAKE UP CALL: TEXAS GOV. BACK RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Perry continued: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas."

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

Perry is grandstanding for Glenn Beck's tea party tomorrow. The fix is in, Perry will ascend to the Tea Party, where Beck will crown him as a God. Just watch as the stage-show of another Texas Governor trying to ride right wing nut cases into the White House begins. Rick Perry was George Bush's handpicked boy, that should tell you all you need to know.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

This is the beginning of another US Civil War. Yes, it is South vs North all over again. Except that now it isn't the slavery that is the central point of the conflict, but the lifestyles of the rich folks who are scared that they will be forced to give up some of their wealth in the form of slightly higher taxes.

Come come now boys, you wouldn't want to hurt the poor CEO who is getting his $100 Million compensation package would you? The idea that his taxes would be raised to what would still be less than he paid under Reagan, why that would be enough to make him go out and buy an assault rifle and head for the nearest Tea Party! Stop this Obama madness before we have raging crowds of Chief Financial Officers in the streets!

Not a problem. Cut em loose. Pull all the Military bases out of the state, pull all federal funding out of the state, let them play with the funding of their own paving and construction and unemployment and social services and border protection and enjoy the next brace of hurricanes all by themselves.

I would guess that Allstate and State Farm would pull out of a foreign investment.

Gas will go up but at some point they will figure out that Exxon as a foreign corporation will have to pay high tariffs to import into the country. DFW will no longer be a hub and the Dallas Cowboys would find themselves outside the NFL.

I think that maybe the little NeoCon didn't think his cunning little plan through [how many times have we heard that one]

Why all this silliness? Is anybody really planning to secede from the Union?

I find nothing wrong with what the governor said, and that is not a neocon thing. I see nothing about secession, just an affirmation that we are united states.

Yet the only way to do this: "“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.” would be a secession movement.

And a good chunk of it is a Neocon thing. They had every opportunity to make the same declaration, and demand its implementation when their boy Bush was in office and Republicans were in charge, but adamantly DECLINED.

This is just divisive Showboating by kids who lost and can't seem to get over that reality.
