So why are we dinking around with the pirates?

I'm confused.

They took the captain, who is an upstanding guy and did the right thing. At the same time he knew something like this was a possibility.

They're floating around in a rubber raft.

What negotiations? Here's your choice, pirate. Surrender and be tried, do your time and then return to society. Hurt or kill the hostage, we hack you up and throw you into shark-infested waters.

Of course by now they'll be hungry and thirsty, just send over some water and pizza laced with sleeping pills, when they black out grab the captain and then cuff and stuff the pirates.

Keep P3s in the area for surveillance and blow up the mother ships. Sooner or later this crap will stop.

It's not a rubber raft. It's a 28ft enclosed boat. roof and all. no way to see in or get a good shot at the bad guys.

I suspect that the captain is really pissed at the Navy. My guess is that he tried to escape so that he could put some distance between himself and the pirates so the Navy would be able to blow them out of the water. Instead, the Navy just watched while the pirates recaptured him. There are enough military assets on the scene that they should have been all over the bad guys the instant he made a break for it. What's up w/ those guys anyway???

They have been briefed on tolerance and sensitivity training when negotiating with terrorists.

Too bad for the Captain they weren't briefed on tactical counter-terrorism methods...

You need sensitivity training. Pirates are people too with families and mouths to feed. Shame on you.

Gotta be nice, that's the new American way. We're not your enemy.
