my answer is difficult since international laws are not up to speed on pirates.
Where do we take them if they are caught? there is no jurisdiction. Somalia? yea right!
we can't hang them (legitimately)
yes, we can kill them by blasting the boat. thereby killing the captain.
there are no easy answers.
long term. change international laws.
short term. wait it out as long as possible. if they don't comply I'm sure navy seals and intimidation may work.
I'd say these pirates have the mindset of a vehicle pursuit driver...
"you ain't taking me unless there are no other options"
as for the "mother ship"
these guys are not a group of organized pirates.
its a bunch of people who get together to hijack ships.
small groups of hoodlums.
they have no leaders, no base, no code of ethics.
each group has it's own 'leader'
it's not a "nation of pirates" with an 800-WE-HIJACK ph#
I have confidence in what is being done so far.
as far as Jaybird's comment, Obama isn't and hasn't changed any protocol in this action. as far as I can see, going by previous procedures.
oh, and being from N.J. yes, we do know all the answers
