I realize you're from Jersey, biker, and therefore of course know everything, but Jay and everyone else here is entitled to share their thoughts and opinions, and if you don't like it, that is simply too bad.
FWIW, all I've seen you do in this topic is berate other people's posts. Since you seem to think you have all the answers, why don't you tell us what your solution is? Otherwise take your own advice and stay away from the keyboard.
So far as his escape attempt, logistically they probably don't have snipers with nightscopes trained on the boat continually throughout the night, so there probably was not a realistic opportunity to give the Captain a hand when he made a break for it, if in fact they were at first sure it was the Captain. Moreover, I'm not sure how smooth the seas are or what the range is, and that at best would be a very difficult shot. Not like you can put a small explosive into the boat, with the Captain in the water he'd die from the concussion. As Qubes recently noted, we're not there so all we can do is speculate, which is all I'm doing, too.
Sea Captains are a curious bunch, if you were to ask him I would not be surprised if he'd tell you to make a demand and if they don't concede, then take them by force, and if he loses his life it's a sacrifice he's willing to make. Just be sure to kill them all, hunt down their mother ships and do the same there.
Sure, these cretins have families...SO WHAT? So do child molesters, rapists, murderers and all other manner of criminals; that is completely irrelevant. Nice that you ply that victim mentality nonsense, but nothing keeps them from leaving or finding a menial job, they choose to be a criminal. One haul brings them more money than most people in the world will make in a lifetime, so they could actually retire, but they don't, they just keep on doing it. They have a lifestyle of crime, period.
All of that said, I think we definitely screwed the pooch on this one. It never should have been allowed to get this far. With additional hostages and pirates on their way, it's going to get really ugly, but I see no way we can just let them go. And how do you negotiate with criminals, anyway? This isn't an issue of negotiating with a government, these are ragtag thieves and arms dealers. Perhaps a couple of low-level torpedoes into their props so they can't go anywhere, then wait them out.
I still like the drugged water and pizza idea, though.
