I know which vehicle I'd rather have/drive!

You can have the Toyota Prius and I'll take the Ford Expedition.

The name of the car was Trabant. Its body was made entirely of plastic panels. It was powered by a 2 stroke, 2 cylinder 600 cc (0.6 liter) air cooled engine and had a 4 speed manual transmission with a column shift. The engine was good for only about 26 HP on the later models. This could propel this light car to about 100 km/h (62 MPH) top speed on a good day. The two stroke engine meant that there were no valves, no timing chain or belt. Air cooling eliminated the radiator and the water pump. The fuel tank was positioned on top of the engine for a gravity feed so no fuel pump was required. The car had no gas gauge, only a dip stick on top of the fuel tank. Forget any power option, it was power nothing. Radio was the only available luxury feature. You had to premix the gas with oil because there was no oil injection system. The car constantly emitted noxious white fumes typical of a two stroke engine of the times.

Somehow I do not think this kind of car would catch on in America. For one thing, many Americans are so overweight that they simply would not fit into this car. And this car could not possibly meet the modern emissions standards.
