I just started a garden using the "Square Foot Gardening" principals (www.squarefootgardening.com) . This is a proven method that is all organic. Very easy to start, only in for about $200 in materials (one time cost to set up) including the soil mix which was the majority of the cost. Took about 3 hours to set up after getting all the materials, didn't include the time puttering around the garden shops and Lowe's for components, seeds, etc.. Didn't have to rototill, dig up any dirt, etc which is a pain in the ass, not to mention heavy and time consuming. Looking forward to the harvest. If everything comes in, should have at least 100% ROI this year alone.

Example:
Seeds = $1.50/packet of 25 seeds
1 seed growing approx. 10 Cantaloupes when Vertical Gardening them
10 Cantaloupes x $5.00/Cantaloupe = $50 savings
Sticking it to the overcharging supermarket = PRICELESS
Avoiding the contamination potential from an illegal Mexican picking the fruit = EVEN MORE PRICELESS

I haven't had a garden in a few years, but may try it again this year.
I've heard good things about those Earth boxes.
I understand asparagus takes a a couple of years to even be able to harvest, and if you keep piling mulch around the new growth to keep as much of the stalk white.
