i'm not sure as a whole but in slovenia and croatia areas, the serbs were a minority in the jna. partially why serbia was not able to retain those areas. everything was driven from belgrade though.

As love w123 suggested, the issues that divide these people are long standing and very deep. They are cultural/ethnic issues, rather than religious. The formation of Yugoslavia after WWI was an act of sheer folly. Sooner or later, it had to implode.

And there are more than two sides in this, in fact at least seven.

I know very little about that part of the world except they make (or used to make) YUGO.
It is kind of strange to learn about it here in OT, as most of the time the posters were jokingly insulting each other.
I've seen beautiful pictures of the area and may be I can take advantage of the current peace to pay a visit. But as long as there is HATE, there is no long lasting PEACE.

China might be next.
China was made by force from quite few nations.

LOL, they still can't point where Iraq is on a map. I even tried it on college students I didn't even try Afghanistan so I don't really go into a depression here

It is also amusing how many Americans have no idea that there might be a difference between Slovenia and Slovakia. Including G.W.Bush.

yes, slavic union may see like a joke to the west but, especially the serbs take it very seriously. if it was more fair, it would have been fine just like the union of state of n. am. but when one group wants to be on top, then you have what happened there and everywhere else where things were similar. iraq was actually similar in that effect. somewhat different parameters but close enough for now.
