SPREAD LOADING is a good thing.
That means 2 x 1GB RAM will be "Better" than 1 x 2GB.
Two main reasons, you are increasing the BUS "tube" so "more" memory goes through per second. Think of it like a garden hose. If you want more gallons per minute you hook up a second garden hose and you get more.
The other reason is Heat. Two RAM sticks do not have to work as hard as one RAM stick. They will last longer. In my experience the only time RAM goes bad is when something weird happens with the voltage.
RAM is extremely stable in the sense that it is solid state but it is extremely sensitive to voltage irregularities.
Look into spending some money on an Uninterruptable Power supply. Make sure you follow the advice about the cooling fans (go with 120mm for the case fan and 60mm for the SATA Hard Drive cooling)
Filters for the intakes are a VERY good idea but not necessary unless you like cracking the case once a week to blow out the crap.
