I don't misunderstand any of it. Nor did I mischaracterize it. If you go back and read my post you will see that I agree with you that the US provided much good to the world in the past 100 years. Few would argue that.
The point you seem to miss however is that, like the rich uncle that pays for everything in the family but expects to be able to be rude and crude and get a little on the side from the nieces and nephews when it is convenient there is not just a "good" side. So it is very possible for jdc1244 to very legitimately say "the world has a bad track record with us" and be stone cold correct at every level. When you try and minimize that with "but we did 1 through 47 and nobody else has", that reinforces that very position of arrogance and hubris that contributes to the world having such a bad track record with us . That is another step on the toes of many in the world. We got the nickname "Ugly American" back in the 1950s. Some of that was warranted, some was not. But it was based on reality.
That is where the disconnect appears to occur.
So now our country is likened to a boorish pedophile!
The problem with your analogies McBear is that they lack the touch of the fine brush you like to talk about. We have on rare occasions made some very tragic mistakes (e.g. Internment of our own citizens during WWI, the tests on African American men with syphilis, etc.)
I would just like to point out the simple fact that we still are the country that people want to move to from other countries to make a better life. But I guess they hate us all so much that they just are moving here to destroy us from withing.
And you do mischaracterize my post by asserting that I am glossing over the fact that we have stepped on toes.
I am not glossing over anything. Please provide some examples of those toes that we have stepped on and also some that show us to be the Boorish Pedophile Uncle.
I would especially like to hear what you have to say about how we have really messed up the middle east, Europe, Asia, Africa, etc.
