How old is too old?
I originally was going to post this with the title "The peril of having a younger wife".
So a mutual friend decided to have kid, except her husband is 60 years old going on 61 and she is 39. They have been married for 9 years and now she wants to have kid even her husband already have 2 grown children and grand children. So they went to the fertility clinic and got her pregnant.
I was a little surprised with their decision but, hey, its their life.
I am wondering if it is a good decision strictly base on his age. I personally would not want to work till 78 years old to put the kid at least through high school, and 82 for college. These are not wealthy people and both work in the health care industry. He is a male nurse and she is a physical therapy assistant so I would put their combined income around $70K (even that is stretching). To top it off, he was recently bitching how much his 401K has shrink.
I have a feeling that she wants (maybe demands) to have kid and he is there for the ride without much recourse. Would you guys put yourself in a position to have kid at his age? I personally will not but that's me and truthfully I would walk away from the marriage if it comes to that. What do you guys think? I also think it's a little irresponsible in their decision if anything ever happens to him because of his age and can no longer work, the kid's welfare could be compromised.
I ask the forum because I know many of you are very responsible people and I think this is an irrresponsible decision.
