I wouldn't go that far but a few rebuilds are in order specially when you do them yourself

The only Benz I can see doing this without engine or transmission rebuild is a 123 chassis 240D non turbo 4 speed manual. This car is way overbuilt for its modest power output and therefore it would last a long time. But getting to this mileage would require very strict maintenance and frequent good quality oil changes.

Heretics!

No – personal experience: in my younger foolish days I owned Ford and GM products – well kept by me – that were dead before 100,000 miles.

The Lincoln in the video may have gone 1.3 million miles but it's still ugly.

If you watch the video, he mentioned rebuilding the engine and the tranny. I bet ya he even replaced the whole thing a few times. Having that much miles on the chassis is easy if you had no rust or accidents.

There are no great car companies. There are just individual cars that sometime please their audience. You have to take cars on a one on one basis, just like most everything else. Get busy.

1998 VW = 1.9 TDI
not 2.0 litre
I think
mines got 196,000, zero maint except for oil and filter changes, and a couple of starters and, fuck it, an alternator at 190,000, so now I gotta keep her another 11 years.
