Great story and congratulations on the promotions. I could totally see this as one of the greatest moments in your life amongst the many to follow.

I was born, raised, and served in the Army - most of my early years were spent overseas (Germany mostly).

My first real encounter with racism came the first time I was amongst civilians here in the States. Culture shock to say the least.

I believe there is something to be said about people that serve in the armed forces and the community in which they live.

We were separated only by rank - officers lived here and enlisted lived there...but that didnt stop us from being freinds. My freinds were of all colors, backgrounds, and cultures.

One thing I know in my heart is that people arent born racists - racism is taught... and its all lies!!!

Anyway Congratulations!!!

Salute! Geez, I sure do miss Heidelberg. Used to go to this little hole in the wall place on the Platz down below the castle.

I am proud of you. Congratulations. You are an example of what makes this country great.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address
