I have no problem with your last statement at all. As a matter of fact, I am with agreement with you.

But the one on Bush, you miss the mark. Who is this Bush you are referring?

Note that ALL of my comments above and on the other threads have stated the politicians are grandstanding on this issue. I didn't microselect any specific subset.

Well, THAT is completely different.

The AIG outrage is just an odd mobrule spin to me. I really can't figure out what has caused it to go to this level. It has been know since the last week of January. And there was very little if any objections to bonuses for other banks besides AIG. It just makes no sense to me.

These were "retention" bonuses, not employment in perpetuity. The contracts were based on 2007 earnings for 2008 to assist AIG in unwinding the "mess" in the financial services sectkion. You are making assumptions about the length of the contract, implying that the eleven who resigned after receiving their bonus somehow bailed out, when the probability is that their work was done or they left for some non-employment reason.

The bonus contracts were established well before the "best and brightest" comment was made. While your lie-detector is still set on "Bush", your logic is missing.

You had a very good, honest, legitimate explanation going until that last paragraph then went straight to bullshit. One paragraph up you suggest that elau still has his lie-detector set to "bush" and in the next paragraph you prove that you have your critical thinking threshold set to "blame Obama". Nice.

Amazing how quickly you are able to lose focus. Have your doctor switch you to Adderall. My friends who take it says it allows focus for longer periods of time than 30 seconds.

It is a distraction. It is intended to enrage the citizenry against something other than the government. The contracts appear to be quite valid and tight, signed during better times. It is part of the employees compensation, like it or not.

That worked pretty well until the internet and google and folks could look back and really see who did what and when instead of just taking the word of either the current politicians of the minority or the talking heads yapping in their behalf.

Now everyone gets to see who really is to blame.

New ballgame since the dot.com bubble. A real bitch for Bushie.

I hope the Senate stops it. That kind of silliness doesn't need to be going on.

While it is nice and punitive for the folks at AIG or Merrill that tanked their company stocks and values and helped to bring down the economy, legal contract or not, there are other folks who did good jobs this past year and earned their bonuses who are going to get swept up in the same bill.

What do you do about a bank CEO who didn't delve in hedge funding or derivatives or risky sub-primes and remained more profitable than most and was only taken down in profits due to the breakdown of the financial system but was rewarded for steering his bank through the rough waters without taking on nearly as much water as the rest? He gets smacked as much. Something is wrong with that system.

I see a bit of hypocrisy here, or at least inequity. What about all the contracts 'renegotiated' with the auto workers?

Oh, they make only $40,000 a year.
