I've met a number of smart well-educated folks who've indicated that they get the bulk of their news from NPR, but turn to Comedy Central as their sole source for televised "news". Seems reasonable to me.

Jon Stewart takes a single, or a few, items out of the mainstream, smeared together background noise, researches them and presents them with a background that adds the right contrast to see them for how fucked up they actually are. That is not normally the approach of "news" reporting, and it is specifically for that perspective that I watch him. He would die quickly reporting "news" alone. It is this ability to see a uniquely troubling turd floating by in a sea of bullshit, pluck it out, study it, and present it as the turd it really is, all almost in real time that makes his show worthwhile.

This was a classic case of a lazy, pompous shithead thinking he could just bluff his way past Stewart and company. Stewart led him to the slaughter with a specially developed baiting technique for a pompous, lazy asshole. It was beautiful. And watching the "CNBC posse" get smeared along with Cramer was just as much fun.

"Should I throw feces on them now?"

In the end, Stewart had Cramer smearing feces on himself and the CNBC posse, so he was able to call off his "posse."

It still boils down to a point of view.

Some people get their news from a liberal comedian while others listen to a conservative comedian. Either way, it's 'off the beaten path' infotainment that can't be obtained from the usual news outlets. Take it for what it's worth and blend it well with the rest of the news to be better informed.
