What a jackass...if he used if for a C-clamp, let alone left it closed with the spindle & anvil touching, it's no good anyways. Well, to the resolution on the barrel at least.
I find Starrett to be on par with Browne & Sharpe. Mitutuyo are tops, IMHO...seem to have a smoother thread.
Mits do have a better feel, and a heavier frame which is easier to use. I have Mits up to 24", and then oddball sets that I use around the garage. My employer provides all my tools at work, so I don't need mine anymore for now
