Looks like the mushrooms made it. I knew if I wrapped them in tinfoil and ceiling wax the dogs wouldn't find them.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

In a previous discussion I checked to see my membership status [as well of my deceased parents] and found that we [3] are still counted as active members a cumulative 8 memberships and none of us have been to any of those churches in decades. Thank goodness we are the only three to not have been removed when the Baptists tabulate their 36.1M members.

I was born into a staunch catholic family and the 10 commandments meant something. As I grow old and my mother/father/3 brothers are dead and moved on to that afterlife which we may or may not fear/embrace I shifted my thinking to what was really happening around me.

Now I have no faith in any religion, but rather enjoy the life I have. I have crossed more borders than I care to mention. But I firmly believe it's what we do for others and what we leave behind for others that is most important.

People who amass knowledge during their life and then give that knowledge with their own form of reasoning to others do most for this planet.

Those who do give spiritual help to others get a feedback that no religion can ever manage. Reading posts like McBear's I see that spiritual feedback

I was brought up with the holy mass in latin and I found it difficult to comprehend when changed to english.

Not hard to imagine, given what passes for English in most parts of the U.K.

Partly. There's also immigration. And let's not forget new converts. Islam draws converts from previous faiths as well as agnostics and atheists. Islam is also high maintenance. You won't get 'saved' easily unless your deeds (God willing) actually save you.

I never saw the number/percentage of followers of a religion of any significant importance. What's really important is if these followers actually abide by the teachings of their faith. Muslims may be well above a billion but Muslims who really know what Islam is and plan their lives around Islam are a much smaller number.
