You are not saying that the 88 year old parking lot guy doesn't use the Air traffic infrastructure or the telecommunications infrastructure as much as those of us who make in the top 10-20% are you?

That is exactly what the IRS data shows; the question yet to be answered is how much of a "greatest share?"

If 25% of filers are already paying 86% of the personal income taxes, what do you think is fair? 88%, 90%, 95%? There is no way to repay the Bamster's new debt with only the taxes collected from the top 25% in AGI.

The expenses of government are primarily for military and entitlemwnt programs the latter of which benefits the "non-rich".

So if a theoretical 25% of the population make $20,000 average and 25% of the population make $100,000 average [let's forget the middle 50% for a moment] and each pay an equal percentage of tax [let's say 20%] why does it surprise you that the top 25% of wage earners pay the highest share of taxes? Does simple math elude you?

1 wage earner
$20K=$4K taxes
$100K=$20K taxes

1,000 wage earners
$20K=$4M taxes
$100K=$20M taxes

1,000,000 wage earners
$20K=$4B taxes
$100K=$20B taxes

10,000,000 wage earners
$20K=$40B taxes
$100K=$200B taxes

Do you think THAT might be where the load comes from, not from a "disproportional" higher tax on high end wage earners?

And please, choose any income range you wish to make the analysis. The math works with any. I chose this to make it easier for NeoCons to follow.

I have no issue with a progressive tax system. I do take issue with a cut (ie - a reduction in taking) being labelled a give away to the rich, since the top payers will mathematically get more as Bear has illustrated. That is rhetoric.
Of course, we should never see any policy which will decrease revenue, since our credit card is maxed out.
