I get and agree with your specific point about there being conservative philosophies that have merit and do not involve starting wars with people who don't pose any imminent danger to us, or helping sweep the money into the pockets of the wealthy. Unfortunately those conservative values, as you note, get pretty short shrift from the head of the GOP at the moment - the party's own Jabba The Hut, Rush Limbaugh. In general it should be expected that any group of people with the same love of country would be united by a crisis that threatened that country even if there are some strong philosophical differences on what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. A well formulated plan to address a crisis should not have "liberal" vs. "conservative" fingerprints on it. It may very well be the plan we have is not well formulated. If that is the case the plan should include a means to detect that it is poorly formulated and a means to fix the poor performing aspects while strengthening or at least retaining those aspects that are working. That Rush and his followers would prefer to have the plan fail for the sake of their political party's future road to power is disgusting and I was glad to see your man avoid joining the chorus of Rush Limbaugh 'rhoid gargling morons.
