An Odd Week...OVER and OUT

This has been an odd week. In just five business days I have picked up a friend from IBM Brazil who is coming to take over an IBM project from IBM US and with it 150 US jobs. I don't have anything to do with the project but the conundrum is painful.

I have delivered a 1965 Mustang to UPS International in Louisville for OVERNITE SHIPPING TO MOSCOW for a client. The buyer wants the car as a surprise for her husband on Tuesday. The seller was more than happy to sell the car and I was very happy to expedite the process. $20K to make a car go 10K Miles in 18 hours.

IBM continues layoffs and threats of them. Wifie continues to dodge bullets but is now just pissed off enough that she would just as soon they call and say bu bye. 24.5 years with the company. I am watching contracts being canceled DAILY.

And in the most humorous of events, I stopped by State Farm to do my quarterly insurance payments, enjoying the conversation with my agent that I have had over 30 years. When we got to my 2006 E500 they couldn't find the record. Apparently when I bought the car back in October they put the payment on another one of my cars [but gave me insurance cards for the E500] so I have been driving the E500 through ice storms and snow and 8000 miles sans insurance. I was so happy.

And I contributed to the economy. I got a new table saw. The old one smoked and died.

Wow. Nothing but doom and gloom on my front too. Another tenant just bit the dust, this is the third one in one month. Hopefully I can get the space rented like I did the last two. Everyone is walking around pissed off and business etiquette has taken the usual nose dive.
That is very interesting about the Mustang. Never air freighted one anywhere, but there is always tomorrow, after the depression.

That is the second air freight I have dealt with. Both to Moscow. First was a Bentley Continental GT. It had nearly 45K miles on it but I was told that a new instrument cluster with sub 2000 miles was shipped separately. Gotta love the Russians.

Uhhh . . . they didn't ask you to cash the check and use the "change" to pay the shipping company, did they?

Perhaps not odd but an eventful week here as we survived an audit by the State – passed with flying colors. I work for the Regional Workforce Board contracted by the State to help people find jobs – unfortunately business is booming. So much so we recently put in overtime to try to address the exploding caseloads.

I as well contributed to the economy and used some of the OT to get the M1A I’ve always wanted – it also smokes but it’s supposed to.

Blew a hydraulic hose on my snowplow, accidentally ran over one of my bale rings with the tractor, damn cows wouldn't get out of the way, and finally the little woman managed to dent the front bumper on the Tahoe by bumping into a barrier at the Bank. All and all quite normal.
