Post " WE NEED TO DO WHAT WORKED BEFORE "

The whole situation with the Auto companies leads me to suggest that we revert back to the "Old " way of buying a new car.
I remember as a young boy/man when every two to three years, my Dad and Mother would go to the Dealership, most often Olds or Caddy, and get all the paint samples and swatches not to mention accessory lists. They would spend weeks picking the color, the uphlostery and accesories. They would go down on Saturday and sit in the models on the showroom floor, take Test drives, until they made up their minds.
Then they would then Order the car, in the meantime Dad usally had made a deal to sell our current car to someone, pending the arrival of the New one. I also remember the excitement of awaiting its arrival, and how proud my folks were on the day they brought the new one home. Those first rides were always wonderful and exciting. Granted it took up to 4 to 6 weeks to get the new car, but back then it was a Really big deal, and we all celebrated it. I think the method of having your new car built to your specs, was the Best. Now each of those old girls worth is based on the options and color differences, each one was unique to it first Buyer.I think we should go back.

Ah yes, the good ole days. Just what were the trim options on that 1831 Conestoga SUV you so fondly recall?

Unfortunately these days it's all about the profit margine, the customer is no longer right. It's no wonder why the auto manufactures have the problems that they do, but even then it's hard to really get what you want in a vehicle today....... CLK 63 Black series with a manual

When I purchased my last car it was like a marathon. The salesman was more than help-full to tell me about all the bells and whistles. I had done some research before buying my 350, so I let him think he was doing a good job. Then the finance guy, what a prick. He was furious I had already had my own funding. Was absolutely sure the MB Finance was a better deal. Well no matter how low the interest rate is, it doesn't beat cash. Dealers now-a-days are only concerned with finance. I agree, do it the old way, but with cash. Avoid the finance. I was in-n-out of the dealer in less than 2 hours. And after I got on the freeway enjoying the ride home, the fuel light came on. They didn't even fill it up.

Mercedes Benz, enough said.
