Stop giving the OBA a free pass.

The Kyrgyz Parliament VOTED to terminate the lease last week, not on Jan 19 2009, last week.

"Successes"/failures don't come in the first 30 days. These were accomplished by Bush who stained America's image. His policies, war, etc was on behalf of Israel which in turn destroyed us! Americans and the world are waking up. This international crisis will be blamed on only 2 countries, USA and Israel )for whom America did everything in the first place). And come on, can you really blame Russia for wanting to get back at us? Payback is hell. What goes around, comes around. Like Teutone said, nobody has been able to conquer those people in history.

Most of these things always happen around the time when a new president is first elected, when he is still a baby. Remember 9-11? So your theory suggests/proves only one thing......9-11 was Bush's fault! It happened on his watch. With your theory, you conservatives/haters can no longer blame 9-11 on Clinton! If you say 9-11 was because of Clinton and Bush "inherited" this problem, then Kyrgyz was because of Bush and Obama just "inherited" this problem.. You guys can't have it both way!

Read your own link. The problems have not arisen since Obama took office:

"The Kyrgyz government in Bishkek had longstanding complaints about the base and had asked for more cash compensation. Tensions were exacerbated in 2006 when an American serviceman fatally shot a Kyrgyz truck driver.

How convenient. Since Obama’s term immediately followed that of GWB, any domestic or foreign policy failures of the current administration can merely be explained away by blaming Bush.

But, but, but..we thought the messiah was going to change everything……

^ So you're saying Obama's presidency is retroactive back to 2006. Gotcha.

So Obama's election is not going to usher in a new era of domestic and foreign policy? His election did not buy America any good will abroad from folks who who were our former adversaries?

Isn't this, precisely, what his selling point was during the campaign?

The heart of the problem is US policy towards former Soviet states. Bush should have been doing everything in his power to make the Russians our pals, but instead, he seemed to enjoy twisting their nose every chance he got. The most irritating case for the Russians is the situation in Poland, where the US is cozying up to the Polish military. Bush offered the Poles "defensive" missles (tell me, how does one tell if a missle is defensive or offensive?) as their big payoff for Polish troops in Iraq, which were to be pointed directly at the Russians. Next, Bush invited the Poles to apply for membership in NATO, in effect becoming part of the alliance of states that are all potential adversaries of Russia, the reason NATO exists. Since the last time Russia was attacked via Poland, it cost them 25 million casualties, you can see why they are a little sensitive to the subject.

We also had the unmitigated gall to castigate the Russians over their treatment of Chechneans, telling them what bad, bad human rights violaters they were being to their Muslim population, and hey, nevermind the fact we are slaughtering Iraqis over made-up stories about WMDs. The Russians have now paid us back for fucking around with them by getting us kicked out of this basing area, it is as simple as that.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address

Furthermore wasn't he supposed to repair America's relationship with our allies abroad?

This is what we were told.

How does that compute with his inability to convince the Europeans to send more troops to Afghanistan?
