Thing I like about them is the service. They always have everything that is somewhat hard to find in one place. I stopped at their vegas store in the past to set up the CLK a few years ago. All the mounts and everything were available.

They have a refurb 225 for 219

Can't go wrong with a garmin. Spend as much as you like for as many options as you want or as little as you want for the basic model.

That may be the real problem, telling the requirements from the gingerbread.

What is really needed to get the most out of one of these units, and what things are just toys to keep the "navigator" occupied?

I bought the top of the line Nuvi680 a couple of years ago on sale for around $800. It is discontinued, however it is still sold online for ~$200, maybe less. It has bluetooth, which I like. It has FM transmitter, which enables it to be connected to your stereo and the sound comes from your car's speakers just like built-in navs. It also has an MP3 player and you can stores loads on songs in it and they also play through the car speakers. Has MSN live traffic with 1 year free subscription, saves me a lot of headache because it is very good at letting me avoid traffic jams. It gives real time local gas prices and movie times, and loads of other stuff. Look for it online. I love mine so much that I don't even bother with the latest, newest ones. This thing was $1200 when it came out brand new. I got it for $800 a year later and now it can be had for ~200 or less! Oh and they will also send you a free update for the latest nav software.

I like that....

I have a TomTom One (about 150USD). With it you can get up to date maps, ton of options, such as voices, map styles, ect. Plus it is Bluetooth capable so then you can get traffic/weather updates. Really justa great unit.
