^ That approach doesn't scale well for distributed enterprises.

Just adding the rugged individualist's perspective.

^ Well, given I'm in a minority of about 1 in 10 computer users, THIS rugged individualist had no such problems on HIS computer. Because it's a Mac.

But the lemming-like following of Windows in corporate America makes antivirus defense a necessity, but the "scorched earth" model is a wee bit indiscriminate.

KIND OF LIKE our campaign in Iraq.

PC's had always held a greater interest to folks who like to open the hood, kick the tires, and squeeze some extra hp outta the box (thus, a more computer savvy crowd). Where have those days gone?

i'm one of those folks and have a large room full of passe stuff to prove it

just switched to vista ult. with a frexh dual core box, muddling through it, still deciding if i want to go back to w2k

last month windows blew up on my hp kayak p3 dual xeon box, after 8 years of service as my main box (daddy always said "don't screw with your everyday ride") ~~~ 8 years with no formats and only a power supply replaced due to cat hair totally blocking air flow ~~~ cpu was 550mhz 2mb X 2, now 2330mhz 2mb X 2 ~~~ fsb was 100mhz. now 1333mhz, i miss my hp

If you haven't already, follow the steps from Post #2, then give it about 2 weeks. I doubt you'll want to revert to 2K.

I love the word abomination, it sounds so unpleasing

Vista really is.

Put simply, it is the worst operating system ever conceived after Windows 95' with a screen resolution set to 800x600. Pure pain. But honestly I have said that to the new Word, Excel, Access, etc and have gotten to prefer those new programs versus the previous. So perhaps it just takes time. Then again, why wouldn't one accept it from the beginning? 95' to 00' was no issue. 00' to XP was great. But XP to Vista sucked. It's nearly identical, just programmed insufficiently.

How is it that you've even seen all of those OS? Does your work require that you change OS every time one comes out, or did you actually go out and purchase a new PC each time? My point is simply that it is generally foolish to change OS on a PC unless required to for your livelihood. I have seen every Windows OS since 3.1 for that very reason. The worst by far IMHO, was Windows ME. Windows 95 did seem horrifying at first, but only because of my neophyte mistake of upgrading a PC designed to accommodate 3.1.
