I am considering a '99 E320 4 matic wagon for SWMBO who has taken to carrying massive loads of Cookie Lee jewelry in the trunk and back seat of the famed Sable temp daily driver. My question is of a more general nature so I didn't want to go to the 210 forum with it. I am trying to avoid having her drive around with the headlights illuminating the night sky instead of the road ahead.
Does a Benz wagon have more substantial support/load capacity in the rear than a sedan?
I figure what with the fold down 3rd seat, there must be some type of compensation for the possibility of the additional weight.
I have a 98 E320 (W210). It is not 4 matic. As far as I know if you have a wagon you have load leveling suspension. So a quick answer is yes it does have more substantial load capacity.
As for the W210 forum you should poke around. They have a very good FAQ section that might keep you from making the dreaded "Harmonic Balancer" mistake or the "Rusty Spring Perch" problem.
Besides, they are much nicer over there than here. There is a poster by the name of Ohlord who has a wealth of knowledge. Just Search on his handle and you will have plenty of information to go and make an educated purchase.
