No more Mr Nice Guy?

Barack tried the post-partisan bit, he tried modifying his economic rescue plan almost to the point of unrecognizability, but the republicans sat on their hands rather than help. Why? Because they are praying Barack will fail, and then they can blame him for the economic catastrophe (and the president hasn't even been in office a month yet).

It's all about power. They know they're becoming marginalized, and they're gambling that only total armageddon can rescue them. That the nation crashes and burns is irrelevant.

So now Barack takes his argument directly to the people.
Best of luck!

It's a terrible thing to waste a good crisis.

They don't need repubs support to pass it so they should do so!

I drove home during the press conference this evening. As I drove through three neighborhoods EVERY TV that I saw in houses was turned on to the press conference except one [looked like Star Trek]. This thing is getting everyone's focus. Many are angry. Some at Government for spending their futures, some at Government for dragging their feet but the main thing that I hear is the pissed off at the obstructionism.

It might be because McConnell is from here and we are genuinely embarrassed that he has a KY by his name and that he puts party in front of Country and State. But folks are vocal about it. And many who were walking around in shock the day after Election Day because their side lost. They want the obstructionist BS to just stop now.

We are on a path. It was not chosen by us, it was given to us by Bush and by circumstance. We have to have ONE PLAN. Not two, not a second plan whispering in the background, ONE PLAN. We didn't have it under Bush because the Conservatives and Neocons apparently could not find middle ground. We didn't have it the last two years of Bush as we were already afire and had NO PLAN.

It is time to set the plan and execute.

Bear,
Try to catch a re-run. Maybe on C-span. It was truly sad the way he rambled on.

Marsden,
Praying the POTUS will fail has been the hallmark of the Democrats for the last eight years. I pray that the Republicans will not lower themselves to that level. Both sides seem to forget who they are working for.

Oh get serious. As if the Democrats had anything to do with Bush's legendary failures. He's the worst failure this country ever had to suffer through. I'm no great fan of the Democrats in Congress but I certainly don't hold them responsible for the disaster that was GWB--a disaster we're still suffering through, unfortunately. I wish it were all in the past. Won't be for a good long while, I'm afraid.

And Poopies, do you really not know that 60 votes are needed to advance the bill?

Oh puhleaze, Obama is pulling this crap for what ?

For Peloosi's pork stimulus package as if it were a sure fire fix for the ills we are in now. They are working in the dark just as much as anyone else; if any economists (yes you Mr Krugman) claim otherwise, count them out as political hacks, nobel laureate not withstanding.

Milfy, you know I don't agree with anything even remotely resembling a bailout. And you know I am violently opposed to the borrow-and-spend ethos of Reagan, Bush I and GWB. But frankly, responsible politcal leaders cannot sit on their hands at this juncture. The disaster we've been handed is far too severe. It's more serious than most people know.

I'm all for revolution, but isn't that easy to say for those of us who are relatively high and dry?
