Yeah, Jim, where's the beef ?

I don't know where you derive the view that cutting and pasting a specific bumper sticker slogan amounts to producing any beef. Specifics have no meaning without a philosophical context - the specifics have to be evaluated on how they fit in with an overall philosophy. You like to cut and paste specifics from your favorite neocon sources, however, you offer no personal context and when pressed it becomes obvious your personal philosophy is so shallow and self centered you retreat to posting specific cut and pasted one-liners and bumper sticker slogans rather than let your personal philosophy become the subject of discussion.

In this thread the specific claim made by the originator was that Obama's statement equalled a "confession" of sorts that Obama's philosophy was based on the concept that all money you earn really belongs to the government and they will let you have what they see as fit for your situation. I did not need to rely on a bumper sticker slogan to contest that interpretation of the President's words. I relied on the English language.

Your bitching about specifics holds little water - I rarely start threads making unsupported claims. I usually respond to threads where a claim is made and the cited support either does not exist, or where my personal view on the matter differs significantly. I am sorry for you that you have so little respect for your own personal philosophy that you cannot use it to measure the value of the opinions of others on a given subject, whether they are quoted from a media source or they are typed out by someone responding from a computer screen somewhere around the world.

I disagree with other contributors, and when the issue at hand turns out to be based on a different, but well developed outlook on life I respect the difference. When the outlook is based on shallow, or even deep, regurgitations of Rush "I hope the President fails because if he succeeds that would be bad for the GOP" Limbaugh bullshit, or entirely invalid interpretations of someone's quote, I attribute the effort to a small minded Orc -like servant of the leaders of the netherworld - and I just can't muster any respect for that. Even when the quotes are very specific. Or not.

But it should either be "cheerleaders are" or "cheerleader is". The devil is in the details.

You need to get a lighter bat, so as to catch up with the pitch.

Explain please what that means. First rule of holes, is when you are in one is to QUIT digging. What is happening when someone is digging OUT of a hole? Or did Freud just lay a real slip on you?

Well, sometimes when you are in a very deep hole you have to dig around the sides to build you a way to climb out, either by tiers or ramps.

Down is not the only direction.

First rule of holes: THINK, then decide what is the best way to get out. It might include more digging.

.. the liberal belief that all money belongs to the government.
Makes one wonder if we earned it, why do they have it?

It would also be a great exercise in logical thinking if you examined your paycheck and looked at the difference between "gross" and "net" and investigated how these figures are not equal. I was not sure you were quite that ignorant before.

It might also do you good to examine how many paychecks you have had with that discrepancy if you really wonder how the government has some money of yours they might give back to you, or how much nicer your "net" number would be if they stopped taking as much. Then you can try to answer your question of how, if we earned the money, the government has it.

When you get through that exercise, please explain how Obama's words mean what you said they do. Because they don't say that and they do sound a lot like the words Republicans chant when they try to justify tax cuts. The only real difference is the Obama speech was aimed at middle class people, not rich people. Oh, now I get it. That's the objection, the feature that makes it unacceptable to the greedy GOP types.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Jim
Several paragraphs written like a puppy chasing its tail.

Obama can't choke out the words, "tax rate cut" (not in the Dem lexicon) so he wants to "give back the money" the middle class earned pretending that has the same effect. But it doesn't. Just like the auto dealers found out years ago that when they periodically offered cash rebates, buyers would postpone purchasing cars awaiting the next bigger rebate. Rebates sounded good, but they never reduced the list price. Obama keeps taxes at the current rate level, when only very temporarily lowering the pain by mailing checks. The wise public (just like they did last year) won't stimulate, they will wait for the next check.

So you are saying that Bush's stimulus plans were ill conceived and failures?

And as for the "growing 46M". Not so much from the latest votes.

I focused on the form as the substance was nothing more than whining about phrasing, which ODDLY I mentioned.
Obama vetted himself, the media only slobbered. No laziness on my part: I read 3 books about him, one by him, listened to everything I could and even read a Saul Alinsky manual on organizing (Obama's mentor).
