I think it is time to welcome all these new Americans to our society. They have worked hard, risked and suffered much, cleaning our toilets and mowed our yards, propped up our economy by buying our shitty used cars and renting our sub-standard housing as they kept our prices low. Their children will make fine Americans, as we educate them and as they acclimate to our culture. I think right wing racists need to find a new whipping boy. The history of the Mexican people is deeply intertwined with that of America, much of this land was once theirs, and many of them are the descendents of the Indians who fled our genocide. We need to recognize them as a different class of immigrant from those who come from the rest of the world. One day we will be a united nation.
What we really need is a system to manage the employment of these people, so they are not threatening economic sectors that support the US Middle Class. The Amnesty Bill does just that. People are tired of the constant right wing call for some type of Nazi solution to this problem, rounding people up into trucks, ripping mothers from their children, the old, who qualify for no benefits or SSI, from the families who support them, or sending back those who came here with their parents when they were small children. It is simple, vicious racism against people we invited here, we invited them with jobs, easy credit and lax enforcement so that the capitalists among us could make money. Now the racists among scream Jim Crow from their radios as they eat their cheap hamburgers and shit in the toilets they cleaned for them. Well, to hell with you throwbacks to the days of lynching. These are the people who support crooked Border Agent back-shooters as they scream for jack booted thugs to haul Hispanic people off like Jews to the gas. Their solution is dispassionate and cruel, and there is no place for it in our world. This bill is the opposite of that fascism. It recognizes the humanity of these people, something the neanderthals among us refuse to do.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
