For those of you who think that justice is being served, I'd like to ask you this question: if it were you over in Afghanistan and it was your daughter whom was just drenched with gasoline and set on fire, and you watched her burn, how would you have handled that situation. We can sit here, in our comfortable homes, and speculate on what was the right and moral thing to do, but I suggest that perhaps that contractor did, what he thought at the moment, was the right thing to do. Of course we can always Monday-Morning-Quarterback, but since we weren't there, I'd suggest perhaps a little empathy for the guy.

And by the way, I totally agree with FeelTheLove. We had no business sending a woman into a society which values its females below that of their goats.

Absolutely! Now, if someone knew the significance of having a woman dictate to a backward Muslims and basically exercise her authority over him, that person should be prosecuted for neglect. FTL is 1000% right on this cultural twits. This basically tells us that we have people in command that never bothered to do their homework of learning about the "enemy".

His mistake was he shot the raghead while handcuffed, not good at all.

Had he not tried to apprehend and pulled out his sidearm and shot him before he could snuff out his Zippo, imo, that would have been justified.

Thus setting a very good example for any other one, who might have been cackling about what just happened.
Should he have unhand cuffed him then shot him? Do you want this to escalate to premeditated?

May I suggest that you use a fishing pole, hook and lure. I really don't think your balls provide optimum bait except for maybe the Ballan wrasse or the Blowfish. I would certainly stay away from the Hammerjaw.

When we go into a hot zone we are trained to handle just those such situations and continue to function within the rules of engagement.

Multi is correct that, had he shot on reflex when the act was committed, there would likely be no issue. The issue appears to be that he he killed someone who was restrained and under custody. Therein lies the problem.

"Ayala provided security on what the Army calls a Human Terrain Team, in which social scientists and anthropologists are embedded with combat brigades to help soldiers understand local culture."

Exactly Bear, and he now has both images to live with.
All be it one of those, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
