That you and others find there is some kind of distinguishing feature between humans that are intended to enjoy those "inalienable rights" our forefathers wrote of, and humans who can be denied such "inalienable rights" without due process of law is a sign the country is at risk of being lost - becoming an ordinary chapter of human history.

Yeah the shitbird deserves to be put to death, and because someone elected to take the path of least resistance, the easy way out instead of doing the right thing, the shitbird may survive, or even worse, may have to be set free. The lesson here is not that our court system is flawed, it is that that when you fail to measure up to the standard set forth in the Constitution for legally denying another human his or her inalienable rights, the nation loses. This is a Bush-Cheney-Rummy fuck up. And I hope the evidence for the shitbird's guilt is strong enough to keep him locked up, even without the inadmissible, torture extracted, tainted confession.

Seems you lame libs want soldiering to stop momentarily while the enemy is read his Miranda rights. You complain about the loss of lives, but what could happen is that in your search for fairness for the enemy, you may just get more dead enemy bodies after they have been really tortured for info. The work of our warriors has to be done and they will find a way to do it.

Well, it is 3-0 in favor of obeying the freaking law at this point.

I have no interest in "the enemy" or being fair to him. I am the guy who votes for having nuked the fucks in and around the Al-Qaeda and Taliban headquarters on 9-12-2001. You mistake my desire to live up to the standards of the Americans who lived before me and built a nation that was loved and revered around the world because you applied your black and white, liberal vs. conservative filter issued to you by Rush Limbaugh to a situation where it does not apply.

The issue of what to do with these assholes should have been thought out before we started taking them captive and should have ensured whatever we did outside the "heat of battle" was specifically in compliance with our Constitution and the treaties this nation has signed. Instead we started down a path to the lowest common denominator with our enemies. I am ashamed of it and will be greatly relieved when we begin to act like the Americans that lived before us.

That you don't see this is your short coming and has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative. It has to do with being proud enough to be an American to be willing to take the "road less traveled" when the situation confronts us. We have an obligation not to tarnish the standard set by those who made America the great nation it was when we were given stewardship of her. That does not mean setting the Constitution and the respect for basic human rights aside while we take the easy, low road when we perceive the chips are down.

Jim

You don't like the laws or the Geneva Conventions, get elected and change the laws. Until then, they are the laws that the Federal Government and our US Military are required to follow [except when Bushie just wings it as he goes].

The military have Rules of Engagement they we were taught to follow, period. That is how a civilized country acts in an adult world.
