That's why you don't go for the cheap starter set for $25.00. Get the one with the large glass carboys and siphons. You also sort of need a 'mentor' to help with the tricks and procedures. I had to do a research paper for Wines and Spirits class. A friend and I did a batch of ale. I had the only paper that 'clinked'. And got the instructor mildly toasted. A 4.0 for the class was a given, but in some areas, I'm a bit of an overachiever (hic).

I have won quite a few bets with the bottles of Czech Budweiser I brought here from Germany (what do you mean it's not American?).
Because of a long standing trade mark dispute, slowed down and interrupted by 2 World wars, the real Czech Budweiser is being sold here as Czechvar (Trader Joe's).
When the region of Bohemia was part of the Austro Hungarian Empire, with German the supposedly official language, the town of Budvar was 'Budweis.'
Great Pilsner style beer, but my favorite is another Czech beer, Pilsner Urquell, from the city of Pilsen.
For some reason these beer seem to taste best from a stemmed, thin walled Pilsner Glass:

it's czechvar because anheuser-bush did win the lawsuit finally. i have no idea how though as the check bud is older then us-bud and has had that name since the beginning.. i bet a-b's pockets are just that much deeper.

For the US perhaps? Anheuser Busch won (one of the many) lawsuits in some Countries, but lost in others.
In much of Europe the Czech beer is Budweiser, while the US beer is BUD.

The Czech beer pre dates the US co, and it was the local brewery of the town of Budweis, ergo = Budweiser.

http://www.american.edu/ted/budweis.htm

Many of the European premium beer are brewed under similar regulations as the dating back to 1516 and still valid and legally binding 'Deutsche Reinheitsgebot,' = purity law, which specifies the the quality of the ingredients to be used. No artificial fermentation, or artificial color etc. is allowed.

Anheuser Busch US brands would not qualify.

Best American Beer for just swilling is Yuengling. It is America's Oldest Brewery and now the No 2 largest American Brewery now that Bud was bought.

Unfortunately for those West of the Mississippi it is impossible to get.

Alas I shall endevour to drink your share when I return.

Official Yuengling Web Site: America's Oldest Brewery

Good stuff. My friend who is German swears he is drinking the Hausbrau when he drinks it.

Cheap too. 9.99 for 12

At least you didn't call me a "frog".

Unfortunately a little investigation showed that those "frogs legs" were actually "rats legs" and the Montreal restaurant owner threatened the "client" with something very nasty if they were exposed. (read Mafia)

So ...no... I don't care for frogs legs...Thank you anyway!
