Now don't start the pillory because I am definitely not supporting the scumbag. I just think that if the prosecutor had a little more time a sting operation would have been set up and this would all be over and done with.

Then again, they had Marion Barry on tape too.
At the very least, this dirtbag is guilty of conspiracy (look it up and I'll help explain the law to you mzsmbs). There's no way this went as far as it did if there were nothing "unlawful" about what they have him on tape doing and saying. Give me a fuckin' break here! Anyone who is convinced this guy got a raw deal needs to put down the crack pipe and back away from the PC.

I'm not, I just think the whole thing is sad. The LT seems to be a good guy, maybe he'll rehab the office and restore some manner of pride to it.

Assuming Blago is convicted of the federal charges, perhaps he can share a cell with Ryan and they can practice their Dutch Rudder technique. Another first for Illinois politics, two former governors imprisoned at the same time!!

As tortured as is the history of Illinois politics, this is the first time a governor has been impeached. The last governor impeached was whack-job former car salesman Evan Mecham in Arizona. I was living in Arizona at the time and was glad of the impeachment, because I didn't get his name on my grad diploma.

But see this is where the law comes in.

Nobody has been talking about what the overt act for the conspiracy is. It is not against the law to talk about doing a crime. You must do something that gives reasonable expectation that you will commit the crime.

Now from what I hear I would believe the idiot would be selling that Senate seat right now if the investigation had not been leaked.

That is the whole problem and why I think the the prosecutor has not moved quickly since the anouncement.

I am sure there are all sorts of charges like "Conduct unbecoming" and stuff like that. But I have not heard of anything like money changing hands or stuff like that.

On top of that I think there is more to the Rahm Emmanuel connection. I think there is a bigger connection to the Obama administration than what is being played out.

I don't think that President Obama himself was involved directly in those conversations. I do think that a few of his minions were though. We shall see what happens in the wash though.

Who's John Galt.

Go back and look in the press after US Attorney's provide their initial indictment on ANY big case. They do not provide press conferences, talk shows, leaks, updates, play by plays. They wait until the court dates to lay out their case.

Here is the original complaint and supporting filings.

I would not expect to hear another word from the US Attorney until the first court appearance. It is possible he will plea out but history has shown he is not that bright.

I'm sorry but I think that you are mistaken.

Quote:
Elements of the offence

There must be a real agreement with the parties having agreed all the major details of the "crime" or "crimes" (not including other inchoate offences) to be committed within the territorial jurisdiction of the court, and the parties must "intend" or "know" the facts which make the conduct criminal even where the full offence is strict. Thus, the mens rea of conspiracy is a completely separate issue from the mens rea required of the substantive crime: Attorney General ex parte Rockall (1999) Crim LR 972 where the issue of corruption in public office was complicated by the presence of the presumption of corruption in s2 Prevention of Corruption Act 1916 unless the contrary is proved in respect of payments to persons in public employment (a provision that probably breaches the human rights requirement as to a presumption of innocence).
There needs to be a real agreement. I don't think that the Prosecution has that. This is where the paper screwed things up.
