Tech Faux Pas to avoid in 2009

This is actually something I can get on board with.

I don't have a blackberry.
I leave my earpiece in the car.
I don't buy Apple products.
etc, etc.

It just seems that a lot of this stuff is common sense though. I have to admit, I see people with the BT Earpiece in and just walking around like it is a fashion accessory. It just screams "Self important attention whore."

One of the benefits of the BT earpiece is that it keeps the cell phone from your head. There have been enough studies that show a correlation between high use and brain tumors that it is a nice little safety feature.

But then again, some folks tend to ignore those "studies" things.

And they are required here in Ca. Unfortunately, the dumbasses that need them the most are still the ones I see driving around with the phone to their heads, driving slowly, cutting people off, etc. One can only hope for the brain tumor thing, or at least a LEO to catch them in the act.

Well, the brain tumor thing also would get you even if you are setting on the side of the road.

They aren't that much fun.

Yeah so instead of the cell phone enveloping your head in RF you have the BT earpiece enveloping your head in RF radiation.

Don't get me wrong, I love my BT Headset but still is it THAT much safer?

As for correlation there is a lot studies showing a lot of correlations that have no causal factors.

Maybe Cancer Researcher can weigh in on this particular piece, but I have always looked at the person's lifestyle (high usage of cell phone, more stress, generally not eating as well as they should because they are so busy and stressed, etc)

Then again we could all just be frying our brains with RF radiation. Cell phones are going to be the new cigarette probably.

That and the Crackberry at the social function things. If I am the host I have made it a point to have a collection platter for Crackberry's. I then take them upstairs with the coats.

I had one friend who refused to give it up and he said that he needed it in case work called. I said fine. When he was checking the sports score I snatched it out of his hand and took it upstairs. He was PISSED and grabbed the device and stomped out of the house.

Later we had a chat and he actually did understand why I asked him to give it up at the door, and I did apologize for taking it from his hand.

I just think it is so rude when you are talking to someone and they interrupt you to take a call or read an e-mail. I mean I am giving you my undivided attention is it so much to ask that you actually engage in the conversation?
