Jody, you're definitely on the right side of this argument. NCLB is a national disgrace.

The only thing worse than racial bigotry is the bigotry of low expectations, which most here suffer from. It is especially disheartening to see parents exhibiting this insidious disease.

I think the only low expectations are those that parents have of the schools. And it is not fair because there are so many very good teachers out there who are trying to do good work.

But focus on test scores instead of actual basic learning is corrupting the policy level decisions at those schools.

When I worked with the KERA program helping them develop their testing matrices, the original intent was to let the results guide the programs and show who needed to improve. The actual result was a change in teaching schedules so classes would be prepared for the tests so the schools would get appropriate funding. The testing became a grading for the institution instead of for the children.

Jay,
Why are you talking about yourself so lowly? Set a goal, look higher, admire the right people, and set yourself on the worthy course. There is still hope for you.

I don't have low expectations of the schools or my children. I have low expectations of government deciding which schools are entitled to funding due to fictitious testing of students that they are prepared for to be able to score high enough that the schools get what they want regardless of the consequence's that will effect our children.
Like the exit exam that high school kids have to take to get a diploma even if they have all of their credits and pass all of their classes they get a fake diploma that they can't even get into college or the military with. So all that gives you is a kid that did everything they were supposed to but can't so shit with it.
They have a better chance dropping out and getting a GED at least they can further their education or join the military with that.
So No Kid Left Behind Can Kiss MY LIL OLD DECREPID ASS..

I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way.

It doesn't affect me. My entire family were all Southern Baptist and, with very few exceptions all went to church every time the doors were opened. So there was never drink at a single reunion.

Well except for the bourbon balls that I made that nobody really knew what was in them, just that they REALLY liked the taste.

And then there were those brownies that my cuz brought once, just to be a shit. She and I are the recovering Baptists of the group.
