Who could possibly hate American Cars more than Top Gear?

Please hang with the Top Gear episode until the very end and something revealing will be said. As we all know Top Gear has never, ever made any bones about their dislike regarding crude American made automobiles. ZR1 vs. CTS V vs. Challenger

They don't hate American cars per se; they just hate bad cars, and we happen to make quite a few of them. They dispense their disgust pretty even handedly, as well as their praise.

It seems to me that you either misheard Clarkson - or do not understand the English 'understatement' idiom. He actually praised ALL the cars and said:

"We came here wondering if America had finally made a car which might actually work in the civilised world. The answer is No - they haven't. As you can see from our smiles - they've made three!"

No shit Sherlock, read my statement thoroughly and try to interpret it correctly this time.

A US version with Adam Carolla being one of the hosts was in the works.

From Wikipedia:

As early as April 2007, the BBC was looking to export Top Gear to the United States.[2] NBC announced, in January 2008, that it had ordered a pilot for a United States version of the popular UK television show Top Gear, called Gear.[3] BBC Worldwide has been contracted to produce the pilot for NBC.[4] According to NBC reality chief Craig Plestis, many automakers have already shown interest in America's version of Top Gear.[5]

Jay Leno, who originally turned down offers to host the show, expressed concern over whether or not a show like Top Gear could be successful in America.[6][7] In a column published by The Sunday Times, Leno expresses concern that an American version could lack the critical reviews the British version is known for.[8] The British show is produced for the BBC with public funds while the American show will air on commercial television. Leno believes that the show may have to worry about offending current and potential sponsors by giving their products poor reviews, leading to a compromise in the journalistic integrity and freedom of the original show.

On June 16, 2008, NBC and BBC officially announced Top Gear.[9][10] On June 19, 2008, Adam Carolla mentioned on his radio talk show that NBC would be allowing the hosts of Top Gear to praise and criticize cars as they saw fit.[11]

The studio segments for the pilot were taped on July 26, 2008 to generally favorable reviews citing close following of the UK version's format.[12]

NBC expected to have Top Gear premiere as a mid-season 2009 replacement[13] but, on December 11, 2008, it was revealed that NBC passed on the show and that the BBC is currently looking at cable networks to pick it up.[1]
