NBC sucks. They haven't had a decent, original idea in about a decade it seems. They just watch BBC and say "Hey, that's cool, let's do that." Without understanding what makes a given BBC show special, they're doomed to fail. There's only so many Steve Carrell's around - and they broke the mould with Jeremy Clarkson.

Merkin broadcast channels have been stealing Brit TV for decades. All in the Family comes to mind

^ I guess I'm not surprised, but didn't know it went back that far. What was Archie Bunker taken after?

I always enjoy Top Gear and feel they are the best car show ever. I do not agree with their prejudices, but then again who ever does? The hosts do not make any bones about hiding their preconceived notions and that is a significant part of what makes it good. The blatant, over the top bias always makes a book, person, or show entertaining regardless of the facts.

From Wikipedia:

As early as April 2007, the BBC was looking to export Top Gear to the United States.[2] NBC announced, in January 2008, that it had ordered a pilot for a United States version of the popular UK television show Top Gear, called Gear.[3] BBC Worldwide has been contracted to produce the pilot for NBC.[4] According to NBC reality chief Craig Plestis, many automakers have already shown interest in America's version of Top Gear.[5]

Jay Leno, who originally turned down offers to host the show, expressed concern over whether or not a show like Top Gear could be successful in America.[6][7] In a column published by The Sunday Times, Leno expresses concern that an American version could lack the critical reviews the British version is known for.[8] The British show is produced for the BBC with public funds while the American show will air on commercial television. Leno believes that the show may have to worry about offending current and potential sponsors by giving their products poor reviews, leading to a compromise in the journalistic integrity and freedom of the original show.

On June 16, 2008, NBC and BBC officially announced Top Gear.[9][10] On June 19, 2008, Adam Carolla mentioned on his radio talk show that NBC would be allowing the hosts of Top Gear to praise and criticize cars as they saw fit.[11]

The studio segments for the pilot were taped on July 26, 2008 to generally favorable reviews citing close following of the UK version's format.[12]

NBC expected to have Top Gear premiere as a mid-season 2009 replacement[13] but, on December 11, 2008, it was revealed that NBC passed on the show and that the BBC is currently looking at cable networks to pick it up.[1]

What? only today you get to watch this episode which was shown many weeks ago in UK.

All 3 like the US made cars but it just an illusion, american made cars can only be driven in a straight line unlike European cars.
