We're about 50 years overdue for normalized relations with that non-threatening island paradise

But they're very threatening! They have universal health care, no crime, no catastrophic collapse of predatory capitalism, I could go on

We have punished the people of Cuba long enough because their leadership didn't believe as we do. Fn Brill.

no President of either persuasion has done it before, why do you think it will be important now?

Perhaps if a distraction is needed???

We have a generational change starting to happen. The cold war bogie man is a relic of the past and since Bush and Rice simply allowed Russia to wander into Venezuela without a peep, the point is now moot.

it may be nice if it were to happen, although I fear it may ruin an otherwise beatiful place and just turn it into a tourist hole.

It is one hell of a beautiful place now and while there are those who may argue the standard of living would rise (and it may well) there is a pretty solid standard of living there now, granted, not right up there with the rest of the Western world but pretty equal for most nonetheless...

(caveat - it has been about six years since I was last there, things change)
