If you sit in the seats, the computer starts calculating your height from the weight sensors in the seats and the sensors in the back of the seats that pickup where your shoulders are, thus automatically moving the headrest to where the computer calculates where your head should be.
Yes... My Lexus, the late model S class, and 7 series do the same thing. No there are no sensors that do all that shit. The VW salesman et al was being a jerk, there is just a preprogrammed algorithm of height and weight guesstimates.
