Like I said, sow the wind, reap the whirlwind. Such is the way of war. Stick a bear in the ass with a stick, while the bear gets a sore ass, you get your head ripped off. It all started with you poking him in the ass. Moral of the story: don't go around poking bears in the ass. If it was six Americans, you think anyone in this country would have a problem with slaughtering a thousand people to keep it from happening again? I damn sure would not. As the great William Tecumseh Sherman put it years ago: "Those who pour the cup of war are destined to drink it's deepest dregs." Hamas is living proof of the truth of that statement.

If the Palestinians don't start learning the lessons of Gandhi and MLK, they will be nothing but potential bear shit. Hamas wants Israel destroyed, period. As long as they hold that opinion, they have no right to be in the conversation, and are legitimate targets for destruction. Fuck them.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

When Israel decided to pull out its settlers from Gaza I knew right there and then what was planned for the Palestinians. Gaza was to be a battering zone whenever Israel felt like punishing the Palestinians, which it loves to do in a collective way.
FTL if you notice that Marsden actually pulled a timeline demonstrating who actually broke the ceasefire that led to this bloodshed then maybe you would reconsider your opinion (Check the other thread: Happy New Year by Talhoube).
You keep mentioning that the Palestinians don't have a ground to stand on because they target civilians then let me remind you: What does Israel target? From its inception it displaced civilians. There was no Palestinian Army when Israel was put together. This was never a military conquest but a religious one where settlers are the key ingredient in helping to carve this new Israel.

I just look at the pure logic of it all - at the heart of the entire problem is the preeminance of groups that call for the total destruction of Israel among the Palestinians. Fatah finally comes to its senses and abandons it's demand on the destruction of Israel, and what do the Palestinian people do? They fire them, and hire Hamas. As long as murder and genocide is at the heart of their demands, as long as it is the cornerstone of their beliefs, they will fail, and rightly so. The Israelis have a lot to answer for themselves, but I have yet to hear them call for the destruction of the Palestinians. The day the Palestinians renounce this belief and support leaders who do not make a ridiculous idea the central position of their politics, things will change. Until then, they as a people have made this happen, they have no one to blame but themselves.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Until the Palestinians are ready to stop targeting Israeli civilians, their own civilians will pay the price. If you call shooting rockets randomly into heavily populated areas where they kill innocent non-combatants "leadership", perhaps you ought to send your own loved ones to live on the Israeli coast so they can enjoy that "leadership" too.
Unfortunately, yours is the prevailing attitude and the primary reason why this conflict is perpetuated year after year. By needlessly oppressing and disproportionately retaliating against the Palestinians, Israel just undermines its own security, in perpetuity. AIPAC wields enormous power here in the US, both over our political structures and the media, which apes and peddles a fabricated and foolishly sympathetic view of Israel as a hapless victim of its rag-tag neighbors--what a cruelly ironic hoax. I have no love for Palestinian leadership in any of its current forms, but the real regime change that needs to happen before any of this can move forward, is for the US to either butt out completely or begin operating as a fair peace broker. We continually excuse and fund Israeli aggression, shielding them from international sanction and accountability.

That is exactly why we are where we are.

Look , palestinians choose the peace for 13 years [ from oslo between Arafat and Rabin ] but Israel killed Arafat and killed about 5000 palestinians in Intifada, Israel pushed the palestinians to choose "Hamas" and "Qassam Rocket"

Bullshit. If the Palestinians stop firing rockets into Israel, they won't be slaughtered. It's that simple. And the day one of those rockets finds an Israeli movie theater or soccer match, you'll get your "proportion" - but perhaps the average Israeli doesn't have your sense of "proportionality" and doesn't want to wait around for that. The real problem is the attitudes of the Palestinian people. They have chosen their leaders in a free election, and they choose murderous thugs. Now they are getting murdered too. Whodathunk?
