The irony of it all as we post on a Mercedes Benz car forum, but wal-mart is bad!

Mercedes at no point in its existence is a direct competitor to any US auto manufacturer. The numbers are too small.

MB is more like the little boutique that opens in the corner of the historic district that sells custom jewelry. Doesn't compete with anyone in town.

It's possible that our system of education has let us down, though, no?

That's me, that's the way I am. Do you feel better now?
Yes, the fix is to throw more monies at it, so as the higher educated populace doesn't scoff at those with lesser education.

Well, I'm with you there, because I don't think that throwing money at 3rd-graders will improve their classroom attention one bit.

So, then, how do we bring about this balance you speak of? Tell Walmart they can't put up stores and win this competition? Tell them to stop buying and selling us cheaper products?

And neither will pointing fingers and mocking the less educated!
But there are those who continually get off on it!
