The fucker has been dead for over 10 years. His sister is the one that held back the deathbed confession for that long. If she knew she should have told the Walsh family when she found out, not over a decade after the fact.
The heartless bitch should be charged as an accessory after the fact for withholding this information - she acted as part of a cover-up.
If you really want to point fingers, point them at the police department that botched the investigation from the beginning, losing crucial evidence, fumbling around like a blind, retarded syphilitic group of monkeys. Had they not done so they would have had hard physical evidence tying Toole to Adam at the time of the crime. (Single example: not only did they lose blood-soaked carpet from Toole's car, they LOST THE CAR ITSELF.)
Toole had also confessed to scores of other crimes, in most cases his confessions were just made up, he was not involved in the crimes. Who knows why his sister sat on the information or why she finally came forward with it? Perhaps she only recently learned of the circumstantial evidence (that the PD didn't screw up) that externally corroborated what she'd been told? At least she did come forward with it, she could have carried it to her grave. And FWIW, based on what little we know about the facts and circumstances of her knowledge, there is no foundation of a prima facie
case for "accessory after the fact" however vengeful you might wish to be.
In the end, I'm satisfied that the Walsh family has some closure, but I'm sure not happy about any of it.
