Yes, but japanese consumer psychology is different, they just plain don't like to spend money. In Amerika, we are brain washed from a young age with a barrage of television telling us we need to spend, spend, spend and lead a self-centered life that revolves around material goods. US consumers can hardly wait for the opportunity to get cheap debt. We all have some strange obsession we live to pour money into, like gas hog Cadillacs, for instance. I can hardly wait to get my next Harley at 2%.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
