American Kidnapping expert kidnapped in Mexico

A kidnapping expert was kidnapped after he finished teaching a security seminar last week in northern Mexico, The New York Times reports.

The paper says a group of armed men grabbed Felix Batista, a 55-year-old consultant to ASI Global, outside a restaurant on Wednesday in Saltillo.

"We have notified the FBI and Mexican authorities, and they are working on the case," Charlie LeBlanc, head of the security company that employs the former military officer, tells AP. "What we are doing is we're offering our support to the family and hoping for the best."

The Los Angeles Times says Batista was "on personal business and not on assignment for the company." The Washington Post says "he has resolved almost 100 kidnapping cases in Latin America."

Here's a recent PowerPoint presentation that the U.S.-based consultant prepared on "kidnap for ransom," or K&R in security-speak.

Sounds like a drug gang with a BWOT sense of humor.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Sort of reminds me of a tough-on-crime AG getting caught up in a hooker dragnet...

or a "clean up the corruption" governor getting caught in his own little corruption scheme...

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)

I think the issue in Mexico is sad. So many innocent people are being killed over there. It has spilled over to certain places in Texas and some here. I wonder if its going to cross borders, than what will America do.

Arrest them, shoot them, throw them into prison, you know, the usual thing.

No, I have been to Mexico twice since I moved to San Diego. I am sure there are plenty of beautiful places over there, but I don't plan on seeing them anytime soon.
