For years, American automakers built shit and force fed it to consumers. Once Toyota and Honda proved that a more reliable and better quality vehicle could be produced, consumers flocked to that quality, leaving the American cardboard and cheap snap plastic counterparts in the dust. It was a good kick in the ass the American automaker needed. They improved quality and enjoyed robust sales throughout the last 10 years. Then, what did they do? They squandered their success and failed to build on it. Now, they're back in the same shit hole they were in 20 to 25 years ago. They have refused to listen to the customer and keep up with market demand. Meanwhile, Toyota and Honda are just humming along, despite their slumping sales. Why? Because they still have money to operate and they didn't give away the store.
