What a pussy - even though I am a civilian and have no military experience, I deserve to deride the pilot for his spineless action.

I still remember a particular air show in which one of the planes from Japanese elite acrobat flying team crashed; the pilot of the plane could have ejected to safety, but held on to the controls until the very end to ensure that the plane crashed into a rice paddy amidst dense residential area.

A true pilot would have prioritized the safety of the civilians and their property he had the duty to protect.

What a pussy.
I am not a person who claims to understand you or your hatred but you could at least wait and see a couple of days before you spout off some of this crap.

I worked directly with the F/A-18 squadrons based out of Miramar and on their planes. As an aside, there is no automatic ejection.

Chances are if the plane was as quiet as it was reported to have been it had zero thrust meaning no controllability and that would also explain the "Top Gun" Spin that was reported by a witness.

So I guess in some asshat hater's minds' if you have zero control, no ability to "Magic" the plane over to the nearest ocean or open field, choosing to eject and save yourself is not acceptable.

Again, what an asshat.

You're still assuming he had any vestige of control. Without power, if that is the case, his fly-by-wire controls were a dead stick. The plane would then have the flight characteristics of a rock.

as I noted, I'd be ready to revise my initial reaction pending the outcome of 'full' disclosure of the event.

so hold your asshat comment.

I am entitled to initial reaction as do you with yours.

A ship's captain would have him tied to the steering wheel of his sinking ship, sharing the fate with the ship. Flying a plane, I'd expect same level of commitment and responsibility from its pilot whether it's a mechanical failure or zero control.

Communication with the control tower during those last moments would clarify the situation.

Fair enough. I will retract half of my asshat comment. You are just an ass.
