Right to work or union apologist?

So Ford wants $9B and GM $12 plus more later. Dems want changes, who knows what GOP wants.

Rather than throwing money at them, I say offer loan guarantees...but only as part of a Chapter 11 plan.

That would be harsh, but it would give them the best opportunity to restructure, tell the unions how it's going to be, and keep our government from essentially owning them.

In many cases I think unions have outlived their usefulness and are significantly part of the reason the big 3 are in this bad a shape.

Just throwing money at them postpones the pain, wastes money and is a signal that business as more or less usual is fine. And it will do nothing to instill any confidence in the public other than extreme short term.

Where is GMISBEST when you need him, anyway?

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)

Their model has failed. This is not an industrywide issue, it's an issue affecting poorly positioned, poorly operated companies. Let's let the "free market" actually work for a GATTDAMM, MARTHERFACKING CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!1!

Fuck the union. They are the biggest problem. Those jobs can be readily filled by people who want to work to keep their jobs. Break the union and you will see an immediate increase in profits and higher quality in the work. If you cannot be fired you have no reason to work harder.

Oh puhleeze, Unions are a problem until they go away. All the "good" non-Union places to work are that way 'cause management is afraid of Unions. Take their "threat" away, and its back to the bad old days...which means, Unions will come back en masse. Folks want a fair shake and a chance to have a say in their collective well-being. With the Big Three, Unions got what they wanted 'cause management gave it to 'em. Like it or not, management is at fault for their woes, not Unions or the workforce.
